Port Segur-Calafell , establishes environmental policies as a reflexion of its compromise with the environmental protection and a sustainable development.
Trough this, Port Segur-Calafell declares the intention of all its employers and clients to do an active afford to respect the environment, starting from its closest surrounding, the Harbor itself.
Last year 2008, Port Segur-Calafell got the EMAS certifications with a register number ES-CAT-000281 and ISO 140001, with register number ES-2008/0480
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
Our compromise in the environment protection in all our actions is one of the essentials inspiring Port Segur-Calafell policy.
We publish all our principles of action in relation with all environmental issues in the form of an environmental declaration to pursue and inspire all activities, promoting public awareness and compromise.
2.1 Our environmental policy
Port Segur-Calafell is aware of the increasing environmental problems worldwide and as a supporter of a sustainable development, compromise to prevent, protect and conserve the environment in all its activities.
The environmental policy of Port Segur-Calafell is inspired in two basic principles. The compromise to develop our activities with the maximum respect for the environment, is our main aim, as well as follows all the actual environmental legislation.
Following this company policy that Port Segur-Calfell started, it will follow the following environmental principles.
- Control and minimize the environmental consequences generated by the Harbor itself
- Follow a strict waste policy
- Promote the awareness and training of all the environmental issues to all the people related with harbor activities, (clients, workers and providers).
Primary the Port Segur-Calafell staff giving them training to motivate implication on the project and its objectives.
-Take action in order to reduce consumption of natural resources like water and energy.
- Inform our clients about the jobs that are taking place in order to improve our environmental behaviour.
All this principles in our policy to prevent the pollution are in our guidelines to improve the harbor. We will revise and update periodically our policies and objectives. For that Port Segur-Calafell want to contribute to the improvement of our environment for the general public enjoyment.
OUR ACTIVITIES
3.1 Information and training Activities.
All the information is made for all our clients, workers and providers trough pamphlets and posters as well as publications. The staff training is trough courses, meetings and real life simulacrums.
3.2 Managing Activities
These activities are mean to maintain our installations as well as to give proper service to our guests and clients (showers, toilets, etc.)
These activities also influence the environment avoiding excess of consumption and production of waste.
WATER CONSUMPTION
The principal use of water consumption in Port Segur-Calafell is showering, toilets, tanks, rinsering boats and slipway area.
The water consumption in 2008 went down respect to 2007 in 15%. This reduction was because water reduction systems were install in appliances as well as environmental awareness of harbor human activity.
The water consumption in 2009 went down respect to 2008 in 23%.
ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION
The electric consumption in 2008 went down as well with respect to 2007 in 1%. This reduction is because we reduce than amount of halogen bulbs in the harbor, exchanging them for low consumption bulbs.

MANAGING AND CONTROLLING DANGEROUS WASTE
All the residual waste previously mentioned in our questionnaire, are kept in special containers made on that purpose in our PUNT BLAU situated in slipway area.
We keep it in containers that sit on a special mesh floor, which is elevated from the ground about 25cm.
The ground level surface is a 4cm steel plate, which is sealed to avoid any leakage to the ground.
Waste is never longer than 3 months in the tanks because we have contracted the recollection services with ECOPORT Company, which is the one that deals with dangerous waste.
MANAGING GENERAL AND SELECTIVE WASTE
Selective waste:
For this type of waste, we have 44 containers for selective waste (paper, cardboard, and glass, cans, plastics and general organic waste) and have 100 liters capacity each. They are spread over the whole area of the harbor (see harbor map). We also have three containers of 4500 liters capacity where we store all the waste.
General Waste:
For the general waste we have got 9 containers of 1100 liters capacity as well as 30 dustbins over the whole harbor area (see harbor map)
The same company previously mention collect that waste as well.
EMERGENCY AND FIRE EQUIPMENT
In Port Segur-Calafell, one of the principal priorities is the safety. That is why we have advanced special equipment to be able to deal with emergencies and fire.
In each dock, we have a fire extinguisher A_B_C type, one life ring with a 15-meter length rope. The maximum distance to any boat is 20 meters.
We have also an emergency leader in every dock (see harbor map), hooks and an emergency rescue boat ready 24 hours a day.
Our fire emergency equipment has four main water supplies, 2 byes of 40mm and 60 meters of length, 2 byes of 25mm and 25 meters of length with double bifurcation and pointed nose.
All our emergency fire equipment is homologated and certified for this kind of emergency.
All these details in the memoir and in the questionnaire are certified by two auditoria’s that we run every year. An Internal one, run it by ECOGESA, and external one run it by AENOR (EMAS & ISO 14001)
